Are you considering renting a motorhome for your next vacation? It is a fantastic decision that will allow you to live extraordinary sensations and adventures. At Adventure Campers everything is included. Next, we show you the keys to driving a motorhome.
How to drive a motorhome
There is a prior issue that you must keep in mind: if your motorhome weighs more than 3,500 kg or includes more than 9 seats, you need to have the B96 or B+E license. Otherwise, you will have no problem using your usual B card.
The speed limits established for them are:
- Motorways and highways: 120 km / h.
- Secondary roads (that is, with more than one lane in each direction and a minimum shoulder of 1.5 m): 90 km / h.
- Rest of secondary roads: 80 km / h.
10 valuable tips for driving a motorhome
If you follow these suggestions, everything will go better when dealing with these vehicles:
- Choose the ideal motorhome for your circumstances: passengers, route, duration of the route, belongings, budget…
- Practice with it before starting the itinerary.
- Check, as in any vehicle, its general condition, tire pressure, fluid level, etc., before leaving.
- Take out travel insurance.
- Make sure you have mirrors that protrude as much as possible, but not more than 20 cm.
- Drive smoothly, without harsh acceleration or braking. In this sense, be aware that you do not drive a car or a saloon, as in your day to day.
- Keep all interior items secure and stowed while you drive.
- In any case, do not consume alcohol or drugs.
- Avoid overtaking as much as possible.
- Maintain a stable speed, neither too fast nor too slow. In case of strong wind, stop the motorhome until it stops.
